LACC Swap Meet… Not So Much

Jessica Lehmann

I love yard sales, thrift stores and free stuff. Accordingly, I thought I would love the LACC Swap Meet… but I didn’t.

We laugh/balk at your prices

There are shoes, electronics, clothing, art, household cleaners, more electronics, children’s toys, etc. Just imagine if a 99 Cent Store and a yard sale had a parking-lot sized baby, and you’ve got the right picture of the LACC Swap Meet.

On one visit, I purchased a framed print of the painting Paris Street; Rainy Dayfor $5. I thought this was a good deal. But this is the only thing I’ve ever bought after having been there three times now.

On another visit, I found a great pair of work shoes: Italian leather flats. But I must’ve looked like rich that day because the lady dead-pan priced them at $25: a blasphemous amount to a seasoned cheap-ass.

I do believe that if you went there with a $20 bill to buy cleaning supplies for the year: dishwashing soap, laundry detergent, Windex, etc. you could make a solid investment. But for the person who loves to go clothes shopping on the cheap: this is not the place (unless you’re shopping for men’s bulk underwear, then you’re good. Really.)

Harder to find in bulk
