Grant Lyle Nu

By Stephen Chow

You need some Grant Lyle in your life. Packed with soul, the icon is back with Nu. There’s no mistaking Lyle’s bluesy rock imprint. Classic. He may sound broken-hearted at times on tracks such as “Take It Back,” but he’s going to be just fine. “Give It Time” Lyle reminds us.

The three-piece sounds like many, with Lyle’s unmistakable voice hitting hard. He can croon, he can knock out a power ballad. He can wail on guitar. You’ll be reminded of the Allman Brothers. You’ll be reminded of Grant Lyle.

Authentic and hard driving, Lyle can easily slip into cruise mode. But he never phones it in. This career musician is present even if his music sounds like it hails from the past. His style is a reminder that there are still great musicians hammering out records and live performances, only getting better with each.

He may make it look easy, but Lyle’s music is crafted from hard truths, experience, the good time, musicians as family, and diehard touring and recording. If you need an example of how it’s done, here it is.
