Dusty Grant: “This Longing Heart”

By Antiem Boyd

Dusty Grant has been making music for nearly 20 years and his new single “This Longing Heart” is proof that he has not been wasting his time. From a young age, Grant wrote and recorded his own music, never ceasing to absorb some new aspect of the creative process. Grant has moved from metal and hard rock to acoustic rock/grunge and the styles suit him well.

“This Longing Heart” is one of the first songs Grant wrote entirely by himself. And for himself. The song is deeply personal. Grant says he was in a “funk” and turned to his music to find a way out. Sharing doubt and pain turned out to be cathartic for Grant, while also giving him a seriously good first single of his solo career.

Grant’s voice has a slight Vedder edge. You can hear his background in metal, smoothed out for this genre. The track is a driving melodic song and Grant is in full command.

If “This Longing Heart” is any indication of what’s to come from Grant, he’s going to do quite well for himself.

“This Longing Heart” Lyrics:

How could I? How could I step back from what’s mine?
It all just takes time
Why would they expect me to stop?
They don’t know
Why should I? Why should I invest in this lie?
This wrong we deny
Acceptance won’t help me relax, no

Following the path of most resistance
Bludgeoning this life of mine to death
No escape and I’m not sure I’d want to
I push on until there’s nothing left

In a world, filled with boundaries
In these days filled with doubts
In this heart filled with longing
I am figuring it out

How could I? How could I step back from what’s mine?
It all just takes time
Acceptance won’t help me relax, yeah

Following the path of most resistance
Bludgeoning this life of mine to death
No escape and I’m not sure I’d want to
I push on until there’s nothing left

In a world, filled with boundaries
In these days filled with doubts
In this heart filled with longing
I am figuring it out

Following the path of most resistance
Bludgeoning this life of mine to death
No escape and I’m not sure I’d want to
I push on until there’s nothing left

In a world, filled with boundaries
In these days filled with doubts
In this heart filled with longing
I am figuring it out
