Delilah’s Tribute Does a Legend Proud

Delilah: Delilah Sings Sarah + 1

If you’re a Sarah Vaughan or jazz fan, you might want to check out Delilah’s homage to the legendary singer with her new EP Delilah Sings Sarah + 1. It’s no small feat, trying to fill those shoes, but Delilah, the latest sensation from Budapest, brings a kind of modern swagger and loveliness to a classic singer and sound.

The Hungarian singer adds her own flare to Vaughan’s historical foundation without taking anything away from such classics as “Whatever Lola Wants,” “Just Friends,” “Smile,” and “September In The Rain.” Nothing can touch the original Vaughn sound but there’s an art to recalling an artist without mimicking him or her. This is not a sound-a-like EP and is definitely worth adding to your standards rotation.

Delilah’s voice soars and then intermingles with the music, producing pure delight. Hers is a tribute that honors Vaughan and the creators of these timeless songs. Delilah Sings Sarah + 1 is a shimmering little gem.
