Continuing on our soulful women’s journey, let’s talk about 16-year old Alice Sungurov. Bursting with talent, Sungurov is the latest young artist to step forward, hopefully to grab one of those top perches in the pop spotlight.
But Sungurov had to take a detour to get here. Diagnosed with Auditory Processing Disorder, Sungurov had to learn how to hear as APD is a neurological disorder where the brain processes spoken language and background noise in a different way.
Sungurov’s mother created an arts program for her and the result…Alice can belt out tunes like the pros. Her new single “Broke My Heart” is proof that she’s got the talent to take on Taylor Swift one day. And maybe even Shoshanna on Girls. Sungurov could be Shosh’s younger sister. I’m already writing these scenes in my head.
Anyway, the young artist is full of positive energy and loves to endless create. Sungurov says, “Having my voice be heard inspires me to write. When I write music, I write a story. And then I hear lyrics come together with music and there is a moment where everything is paused, the feeling of content, the feeling of being complete. It is like reassuring myself that I know what I was meant to do.”
Sungurov has the makings of a star. And one that will appreciate that post and responsibility because all of this hard work tends to make an artist very aware of how long and the winding the path to the top can be. Sungurov is ready for the challenge.
